Practical Approach for Assessing Wetting-Induced Slope Failure

Ignoring the role of soil suction and implementing unsaturated mechanics when assessing slope stability in Indonesia is a common practice. One main reasons due to precognition that incorporating means using higher shear strength, which leads less conservative analysis, while it difficult practically obtain accurate input parameters for analysis. However, number failures occur all over world rainfall, becomes evidence ignoring may not necessarily lead result. On 9 January 2021, rainfall-induced failure occurred at Cimanggung after four hours heavy rainfall killed 32 people. Many them were injured, houses destroyed.
